It takes home five gongs

‘Control,’ the biopic about Joy Division frontman Ian Curtis, picked up five awards at last nights British Independent Film Awards.

As well as taking home awards for Best Director, Anton Corbijn, and Best Actor, Sam Riley who plays Ian Curtis, the film also took the all important Best Film prize at the ceremony.

The awards cap an amazing year for the £3m project, which received early recognition and critical acclaim at the Cannes Film Festival in May.

Corbijn, who is more widely known as a photographer, also took home the prize for Best Debut Director.

Toby Kebbell, who plays Rob Gretton in the film, scooped the films final award.

Elsewhere at the ceremony, which was held at the Roundhouse in London, Julien Temple's film about Clash frontman Joe Strummer was handed the Best Documentary prize.
