Sony To 'Un-Lock' Restrictions On Album Downloads
Bruce Springsteen
Sony BMG are to being selling select albums without Digital Rights Management systems (DRM), it’s been revealed.

The DRM-Free albums will be available by purchasing special gift cards from Sony's Platinum MusicPass service. Fans can then use the gift cards to purchase albums from artists such as Bruce Springsteen and Avril Lavigne, via the MusicPass website.

The new deal means that all the world’s four major record labels - EMI, Universal, Warner Brothers and Sony BMG - now offer DRM-Free music. Without DRM controls, fans are able to play their music downloads on different computers and portable devices.

There are currently no plans for Sony’s new initiative, which will launch in Canada later this month, to be implemented in Europe, reports the BBC.
