Jack White Speaks to Artist about Original 'Conquest'
Jack White of White Stripes
The White Stripes Former, Jack White talks to veteran who recorded single first.

The White Stripes' frontman Jack White has sparked up a conversation over their cover of single 'Conquest' with the song’s original singer Patti Page.

Detailed in USA Today magazine, both singers relay their thoughts on the track, White beginning the phone conversation by telling Page how much he loves her early experiments with multi-track recording.

He also revealed he often listened to a collection of her hits while working in an upholstery shop he owned in Detroit.

He explained: "The last song on it was 'Conquest'. Whenever the first horns came on, I knew that, whatever I was working on, I was going to have to flip the record pretty soon."

The White Stripes recently released ’Conquest’ in three vinyl versions: The black-and white-vinyl singles contain the recording that appears on their 2007 album ’Icky Thump’.

Page, in response, said she's thrilled that a new generation has discovered her music through The White Stripes' cover.

"It's great that they realize that some of us old folks had something on the ball, too," she quipped.
