‘Shine A Light’ includes footage from the band’s two performances at the Beacon Theatre in New York in 2006.
The film also includes rare videos of the band captured at various moments throughout their career.
Both Scorsese and members of the band are expected to attend the opening of the festival, reports the BBC.
"We are extremely excited to have the world premiere of this magnificent film as our opening gala," festival director Dieter Kosslick told the Associated Press. "Martin Scorsese has captured the pure essence of an iconic band on the big screen."
The film ‘Filth And Wisdom’, which sees Madonna make her directorial debut, will also be shown at the Berlin festival.
'Shine A Light' was shot over two nights in 2006 at New York's Beacon Theatre, and features backstage footage as well as rare archive footage and interviews with the band, as previously reported.
