London Welcomes East Village Club

With The Key, The Cross and Canvas gone in one fell swoop at New Year and Turnmills following suit in Easter, the amount of clubs in London has been rapidly diminishing. Luckily, rescue is on the way in the form of a brand new venue: the East Village club in Shoreditch.

East Village opens on Friday 22 February, on the site of the old Medicine club. This location - right by Old Street tube - is a prime piece of East London clubbing real estate, a notion surely not lost on the new owner and resident DJ, Stuart Patterson. Patterson is a well-known face about town from his late 90's Soulsonic sessions and his involvement with the Faith house music collective.

Patterson will personally be running Fridays' eponymous East Village nights, where 'quality house music' rules the roost downstairs, while cosmic disco will hold sway upstairs. For the opening night there's Karizma from Baltimore, plus Tomoki Tamura, whose Holic Thursday session at AKA is always buzzing, and of course Mr Patterson himself. The disco side of things is being taken care of by the Idjut boys, plus the much feted Disco Bloodbath crew step up too.

Saturdays will see outside promotions take the reigns, including Go!Zilla, Black Rabbit and Need2Soul, each quality promotions that are sure to make this an essential hangout for lovers of underground beats of the highest calibre.

Parties to look out for include Thursday 28 February's Gilles Peterson Brownswood Loves Bass label bash, featuring Benga, Ben Westbeech and Ross Allen, and Friday 14 March's appearance of Andrew Weatherall, returning from his tour of Australia to his regular East London haunts. Quality.
