Girls Aloud's Cheryl Cole has been in discussions with officials about opening a youth centre in her home town of Newcastle.
The singer highlighted the problem of children not being able to afford to take part in many activities already on offer in the city, so was looking into providing a club for them, reports BBC News.
"Kids want to be involved in boxing but haven't got a boxing school nearby, little things like that to prevent them, or they're not privileged and can't afford £10 a week for boxing or swimming or whatever it is," she said.
"I have actually spoken to people about it, getting somewhere in Newcastle, instead of hanging around on the streets, having somewhere to go. If and when I do it, I want to be quite hands-on. At the moment I'm too busy with the tour and stuff."
