Matthew Dear Lost His Hard Drive
Matthew Dear
On April 4th, 2008 Matthew Dear's hard drive was stolen while he was performing at Galapagos Art Space in New York City.

According to Brooklyn Vegan, the source which reported this first, “Dear had been playing a killer set for 2 hours or so. Suddenly he got a message on his computer saying that his hard disk drive was unplugged.” No additional information has been announced but it is quite the house warming gift.

One of America's most promising producers, Dear recently moved from Detroit to New York City.

Matthew Dear is just the latest high profile performer to have his equipment stolen. Last November Richie Hawtin's customized Xone:62 mixer was stolen in Berlin. Over the past few years BT's studio has been broken into on more than one occasion and there are countless regional artists that have had their gear snatched away from them.

This though has to be one of the most cowardly acts in recent years. Having one's hard work snatched away from them while they are performing for a crowd of supposed fans is a blow to anyone's psyche. Hopefully the hard drive didn't contain any material that wasn't backed up.
