Weezer Weezer have revealed that they were inspired to write their new single, ‘Pork and Beans’, after they fell out with their record label, Geffen.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, frontman Rivers Cuomo said that the label had initially rejected examples of new material that he had played to them in a meeting.
“I came out of it pretty angry," Cuomo said. "But ironically, it inspired me to write another song."
In the song, Cuomo sings about ‘not having to wear the clothes you like’ and that he ‘doesn’t have a thing to prove to you’.
‘Pork and Beans’ is the first song to be taken from Weezer’s new album ‘Weezer’, which is released on June 30th.
Lyrics from ‘Pork and Beans’ include, “Everyone likes to dance to a happy song/With a catchy chorus and beat so they can sing along/Timbaland knows the way to reach the top of the chart/ Maybe if I work with him I can perfect the art."
‘Pork and Beans’ itself is out on June 23rd.
