Francois K With its closing only weeks away now, Club 11 have wisely decided to go out with a bang that will without a doubt result in a talked-about night. This Sunday (8th June), the venue will host a unique performance by the legendary Francois K, one of the initators of house music as we know it and an absolute 'must see' artist.
Francois K (real name Francois Kevorkian) was born in France but moved to New York in 1975 to embark on a drumming career. Pursuing new musical inspiration and ideas, and the overwhelming competition of fellow drummers, he dove into the NY city clubbing underground to become a DJ. In 1976, his career skyrocketed and he was given the chance to start producing and remixing tracks for a number of artists.
His first remix of Musique's 'In The Bush' became an instant radio and club hit and many more productions and remixes followed. Being involved in the industry for over three decades, Francois remixed several notable mainstream artists such as Eurythmics, The Cure, Kraftwerk, U2, Madonna as well as having produced numerous big hits that have made it to the upper regions of the charts. As a DJ, Francois has performed at fabled clubs such Paradise Garage, The Loft, Studio 54, while holding a residency at the infamous Zanzibar venue, the breeding grounds of modern dance music.
His set at Sonar 2002 marked a turning point in Francois career, and he is now focusing on the more techno and dubby sounds of the dance spectrum. Since 2003 he's been involved in his own club night at Cielo, New York called Deep Space, which focuses on dub in all its forms. The end of June will sees perform at the closing party of Tokyo's legendary Yellow Club next to Laurent Garnier, but before that he will be in attendance at Amsterdam's Club 11.
His groundbreaking work has proven Francois to be a very diverse and multi-talented artist, and it can be expected that his Club 11 gig will be as such. From house to techno to dubstep and all possible combinations, you can count on Mr Kevorkian to cover the whole width and depth of dance music.
So be sure to check out this house music legend at Club 11 this Sunday. Tickets cost EUR 12 (presale) and are for sale at Rush Hour, Concerto and Beatfreax.com. Tickets at the door are priced EUR 15. Doors will open at 22.30 and the night comes to a end at 05.00 (ish).
