UCLA Live Announces Event 2008-2009 |

 Zakir Hussain The nine-month season of this year’s UCLA Live event will run from October 1, 2008, to June 20, 2009.
UCLA Live event will consist of 94 performances spanning the genres of theater, dance, spoken word, family, organ and music ranging from classical, jazz and world to folk, roots and electronica.
Presenting today’s most important and vital talents — from the world’s greatest stars in iconic performances to breaking artists in rare appearances and series regulars returning in new productions.
The season will feature performers from countries including Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Ireland, Germany, England, Hungary, India, Iran, Israel, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Russia, Serbia, Spain and the United States.
The World Music series features more than 10 events, kicking off in October with the Global Drum Project, a musical collaboration between Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart, Indian tabla maestro Zakir Hussain, Nigerian talking drum virtuoso Sikiru Adepoju and legendary Latin percussionist Giovanni Hidalgo.
The series concludes in June with the West Coast debut of the Balkans’ Goran Bregovic Wedding and Funeral Orchestra, arguably the largest and most diverse world music group ever to hit Royce Hall.
