Katy Perry California singer/songwriter Katy Perry's single "I Kissed a Girl" jumped one place to claim the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 chart Thursday, sending Coldplay's "Viva La Vida" crashing to No. 6.
The former Christian-pop singer's bi-curious tune, no relation to Jill Sobule's 1995 hit of the same name, also becomes the 1,000th No. 1 of the rock era, which began with Bill Haley and His Comets' "Rock Around the Clock" in 1955.
Perry's new album, "One of the Boys," debuted at No. 9 on the US album chart Wednesday (June 25).
After Perry, the next four artists on the Hot 100 were each up one place: Lil Wayne's "Lollipop" at No. 2, Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" at No. 3, Rihanna's "Take a Bow" at No. 4, and Natasha Bedingfield's "Pocketful of Sunshine" at No. 5.
Chris Brown's "Forever" was also up one, to No. 7, while Plies' "Push It Baby Part 2" featuring Ne-Yo jumped three to No. 8. The Pussycat Dolls' "When I Grow Up" surged nine points to No. 9, and Miley Cyrus' "7 Things" soared 60 places to No. 10, tying her career-best mark on the tally.
"This Is Me," Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas' duet from the recent Disney Channel movie "Camp Rock," was the top debut at No. 11.
