James Brown's Memorabilia Stars at Christie Auction

Contributed By: Lion on The Table Created On: Friday, 18 July 2008 Hits: 55 James Brown Classic and rare James Brown memorabilia, who died on Christmas day in 2006, have been auctioned at Christie's in New York for a total of $800,000 (£400,000). Hundreds of the "Godfather Of Soul"'s items were sold including cans of hairspray, jumpsuits, musical instruments and hair curlers, reports BBC News. The most expensive item auctioned was a black cape with the soul singer's name written on the back, which went for $47,000 (£23,500). A set of three pink sofas went for $40,000 (£20,000), while a Yamaha baby grand piano also went under the hammer. The auction had initially been delayed after Brown's family members argued about ownership of the possessions. Money raised from the auction will be used to pay Brown's outstanding tax bills.
