Janet Jackson Janet Jackson has split with her record label Island/Def Jam Records, was announced today (September 22).
According to the album's producer Rodney 'Darkchild' Jerkins, the deal that Jackson signed with Island/Def Jam in 2007 came to an end after she felt the her record 'Discipline', wasn't pushed, a sentiment that Jerkins shares:
"I felt like it wasn't pushed correctly" he said in an interview with rap-up.com. "She just didn't get her just-do as an artist of that magnitude."
Meanwhile, Jerkins also said that he hopes to return to Jackson's glory days by making an album with fellow super-producers Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, and that a "classic Janet record" is on the cards.
Jackson also revealed her dislike for her label in June when speaking to hip-hop website SOHH.com.
"I'm trying to figure out a way to say this, but just to say it and to be quite honest, they just stopped all promotion whatsoever on the album, so I don't think you're going to hear another single off this album," stated Jackson.
Janet Jackson is currently on her 'Rock Witchu' tour to promote her album 'Discipline', which was released in July of 2007.
